Writer's Block?

We all have those moments when our heads stop putting words together in a way that we believe others would wish to see them. When you experience writer's block, there likely many things that you can do.

I suggest a few things that have helped me.

1. Read. If you have run out of things to say, step back and get inspiration. Reading books like the one you are trying to write can help you to develop your own story. Just be sure it is your story you are telling and not just copying the ideas of your favorite authors.

2. Watch a movie. Remove your mind from the writing process by watching a movie or your favorite television show. You can find ideas to build upon from the most unlikely sources. Let the media be your muse.

3. Talk to others. If you have friends, mentors, or others you can talk to, they can help you to break out of the funk you are in and maybe give you some idea based off their own lives. You don't even have to talk about your block, just talk.

4. Take a walk. Go out into your neighborhood and look at what is going on around you. As I said before, you should not think that ideas only come from one source. Your best book may come to you when watching little girls playing with a jump rope, or seeing a man putting a new roof on his home.

You never know where your next thought can come from. Broadeining your horizons, breaking out of your regular daily routine, and even stepping back from your writing can make you a better writer and help break through any blocks you have building.

If you have any other great ideas, please do contact me. You may be my featured blog for the week!

Happy writing!
